CYCLING
Despite being a Sorian municipality, Golmayo made its professional cycling debut by hosting a departure in the Vuelta a Burgos in 2023. Interestingly, that stage also concluded at the Burgos summit of Lagunas de Neila.

CULTURE
Golmayo stands out for its nature as well as for its historical heritage. The spectacular La Toba Waterfall is one of the natural attractions of a municipality that invites nature and rural lovers to enjoy its surroundings.

SPORTS
Through its ‘Golmayo se mueve’ (‘Golmayo moves’) programme, this Sorian municipality encourages its inhabitants, young and old, to take part in sporting activities each year, thus promoting a healthy lifestyle.

GASTRONOMY
Golmayo’s gastronomy is characterised for its traditional stews, particularly its free-range chicken, that reflect the authenticity of Sorian cuisine. The typical drink, the zurracapote (a mixture of wine, fruit and spices) completes this locality’s deep-rooted gastronomic offer.

SORIA PROVINCIAL COUNCIL
The Province of Soria is a unique example of character, history and natural heritage – a character forged by history, ranging from the very first Roman settlements to later Medieval monuments, and an almost undisturbed nature that attracts tourists from all over the globe.
In 2020, La Vuelta visited Garray, a Sorian locality that is directly connected to the Roman town of Numancia. An example of tenacity and valour in the face of an invincible empire, the legend of Numantine resistance forms part of popular imagery and has transcended throughout the centuries.
The province is also one of the ‘meccas’ of an emerging form of tourism: birdwatching. Particularly in the region’s South, which is still home to wild landscapes that have remained largely untouched over time and enchant tourists from all around the world. After hosting a departure and a finish-line in 2024, at the Laguna Negra in Vinuesa and at San Esteban de Gormaz, respectively, Soria will once again play an important role in La Vuelta Femenina by Carrefour.es.

CYCLING
Faustino Rupérez is the province’s great cycling icon. Winner of La Vuelta in 1980, his victory tally also features one Volta a Catalunya and two Vueltas a Asturias. Another notable figure is José Luis de Santos, former Spanish national team coach and current president of the Professional Cyclists Association.

CULTURE
The poet, Antonio Machado, is an adopted son of Soria. One of Spain’s most important literary figures, he dedicated numerous verses to Soria and always said that he spent some of his happiest years there.

SPORTS
Some of our nation’s major sports stars come from Soria. The province has given us authentic athletic icons, such as Fermín Cacho, a gold medal recipient in Barcelona 92, and Abel Antón, a World Marathon Champion in 1997 and 1999.

GASTRONOMY
Soria’s excellent livestock industry provides the raw material behind the magnificent meat products made in Soria, such as suckling lamb and suckling pig. However, if one product stands out above the rest, it is the traditional torreznos (fried bacon rashers).
