Demi Vollering (SD Worx): “I thought I had gone a bit too early”

I was just really keen to win this because, for me… Today was just really hard! I thought to just go my own tempo, because I know I can keep a hard pace for a long time and I hoped to drop as many riders as possible, as soon as possible. Annemiek (van Vleuten) tried to overtake me and I thought it was also time to give it my all and empty myself. First, I thought it was maybe a bit too early because there was still a long way, but in the end, it was not. Today was a hard day, there was a lot of climbing. In the beginning it looked good for us, as the three of us were still there. Then, Niamh (Fisher-Black) crashed. We really hoped that she could come back, but the group was riding pretty fast. She couldn’t make it and it is sad because I think she would have done really well today. We will see day by day. The last day is also a really exciting one, so I hope we can keep the Red jersey there
