Barcelona breathes cycling

March 10 th 2025 - 19:45 [GMT + 1]

Barcelona is gearing up to write a new chapter in the history of cycling with the Grand Departure of La Vuelta Femenina 25 by Carrefour.es. The city, with its undeniable sporting tradition, will fire the starting gun for an edition that promises to be both exciting and very challenging.

The starting point will be marked by the grandeur of La Pedrera, from which the teams will cover several kilometres along the Diagonal – one of the city’s main arteries – thus combining sports, history and culture in an event that will draw the attention of the cycling world.

Barcelona is not only a reference in the organisation sporting events, but also has a strong cycling identity. Its more than 268 kilometres of bike lanes and its commitment to sustainable development have made it one of the most accessible cities in the world for cycling enthusiasts. The city actively promotes the use of bicycles as a means of transport, with such initiatives as the Bicing public bicycle system and the implementation of infrastructures to ensure the safety of cyclists.

This cycling city already experienced a Grand Departure in La Vuelta 23 with a team time trial through the city’s main roads, on a day marked by rain. Its commitment to cycling, however, will reach a new milestone in 2026, when Barcelona hosts the Grand Départ of the Tour de France.

Before then, this great start to La Vuelta Femenina 25 by Carrefour.es will be an opportunity to vindicate the growth of women’s cycling and its impact on global sports. Following the Grand Departure from Valencia in 2024, another large city will once again host the start of the women’s race. Barcelona will dress to impress in order to celebrate the evolution of this competition and demonstrate the commitment of our country’s large cities to La Vuelta Femenina by Carrefour.es. With the Mediterranean Sea as its witness, the city will again prove why it is an unbeatable setting for elite sporting events.
