With a history spanning over 100 years, the Sant Boi Cycling Club is key to promoting this sport in the municipality and to training its new talents. It organises such renowned competitions as the Spanish Road Cycling Cup. With this background, it is a real privilege for Sant Boi to host a stage finale for La Vuelta Femenina by Carrefour.es.
CULTURE
The Purísima Fair, a festivity of agricultural and livestock origins, is the event that draws the most visitors to Sant Boi. After 78 years, it has become the main showcase for the municipality’s social and commercial life. It is held from the 6th to the 8th of December. The festive calendar also includes such events as the Fiesta Mayor, the CarnaBoi and the Altaveu Festival. And, for those wishing to go sightseeing all year round, Sant Boi’s Roman past can be discovered by visiting its 2nd century thermal baths, which are considered to be Catalonia’s best-preserved private baths from that era.
SPORTS
The local Agricultural Park’s main product, the artichoke, is at the heart of Sant Boi de Llobregat’s gastronomy. One of the municipality’s main events, the Carxofada, takes place each year in March, marking the end of an extensive programme filled with activities for locals and visitors alike, grouped into the ‘Mes de la Alcachofa’ (or Artichoke Month).

The municipality excels in such diverse disciplines as basketball (with figures like Pau and Marc Gasol), rugby (with the UE Santboiana as the country’s leading rugby club) or baseball and softball (disciplines for which it has hosted over 40 Catalonian championships and 20 Spanish ones).

BARCELONA PROVINCIAL COUNCIL
Sea or mountain? The Province of Barcelona has an answer to this recurring question – one to suit all tastes. The coast, from El Garraf to El Maresme, immerses us into Mediterranean seafaring culture. Inland, the mountainous landscapes of El Berguedà and El Bagés welcome those seeking rural tranquillity.
Barcelona’s typical regional products have made the province an international gastronomic reference. Mushrooms from the forests of Berguedà and Osona enrich autumn dishes, while seafood from the Mediterranean, found in coastal fish markets, enrich dishes all year round. And the Penedès, el Pla de Bages and Alella wine routes, with their respective Designations of Origin, provide the wines and cavas that accompany all local culinary creations.
The province is also an ideal destination for sports lovers, offering a wide range of possibilities. Seaside routes invite you to enjoy the Mediterranean views on a bicycle. For more demanding riders, inland roads surrounded by beautiful landscapes, offer a greater challenge.
CYCLING
Miguel Poblet, from Barcelona, is one of the most decorated Spanish riders in history, with 125 victories under his belt.
