CYCLING
Barbastro was a regular transit point for the now defunct Vuelta a Aragón. Great sprinters such as Mario Cipollini, Erik Zabel and Alessandro Petacchi emerged victorious from the streets of Barbastro - a true mecca for sprinters.

CULTURE
Barbastro, the capital of Somontano, stands out for its cultural offerings, including museums, independent film seasons and musical events. Its old centre, declared a Historical Complex, is home to the impressive Cathedral of Santa María de la Asunción (or Saint Mary of the Assumption).

SPORTS
The UD Barbastro is a historical Aragonese football club founded in 1934. It recently shone brightly during the Copa del Rey, making it to a round of 32 in the last two seasons, where it was ultimately defeated by the FC Barcelona.

GASTRONOMY
The Pink Tomato of Barbastro is a species that is native to Somontano. It is characterised for its large size, its pink colour and its thin skin. Its flesh is compact, juicy and only mildly acidic, giving it a sweet and authentic flavour. Ideally eaten fresh, its season runs from July to October.

27 wineries form part of the Somontano Protected Designation of Origin.
