One of the greatest Spanish cycling summits of the 21st century makes its debut in La Vuelta Femenina by Carrefour.es. It is, possibly, the most characteristic finish-line of La Vuelta a Burgos and has played an important role in its women’s version also, with such riders as Anna van der Breggen and Demi Vollering (twice) emerging victorious there.

CYCLING
The climb up to Lagunas de Neila is, without a doubt, one of the most historic climbs not only in Burgos, but in national cycling. The historic arrival of the Vuelta a Burgos, in both the men’s and women’s editions, was already present in La Vuelta in 1998.
CULTURE
Neila is home to the Glacial Lagoons Natural Park, a group of glacial lakes surrounded by lush forests. Among its impressive cirques is the one surrounding the Laguna Negra and the Laguna Larga.
SPORTS
The area surrounding the Lagunas de Neila offers hiking routes with panoramic views and is a refuge for several species of flora and fauna.
GASTRONOMY
Neila’s gastronomy stands out for its traditional dishes such as frite de cordero (lamb stew), ajo carretero (a rich mutton dish) and caldereta stew – all of which reflect the region’s culinary wealth. Also highly-valued are its excellent beef and charcuterie, including its jamón.

CYCLING
The Vuelta a Burgos is a historical Spanish cycling event in which the world’s elite cyclists usually participate. Its first edition was held in 1946, although it was officially established in the 1980s. Due to its position in the calendar, in mid-August, it often serves as a prelude to La Vuelta.
CULTURE
The Province of Burgos is home to one of the largest collections of Medieval art in all of Europe as it contains hundreds of Romanesque monuments or catalogued remains. Visitors can enjoy the monuments as well as the cultural and monumental variety present in the towns, as they travel back in time to the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries - the era of splendour for Romanesque art.
SPORTS
Burgos has outstanding teams in the main categories of Spanish sport. In basketball, the teams of San Pablo Burgos and Tizona Burgos are the pride of the capital; in cycling, the Burgos – BH, a historic La Vuelta team; in football, the province has two teams in Second Division, the Burgos C.F. and the C.D. Mirandés; at the elite level of rugby is the C.D. Aparejadores Rugby Burgos, champion of the Copa del Rey; and, in handball, the Club Balonmano Villa de Aranda was promoted once again, returning to the ASOBAL League.
GASTRONOMY
Burgos’ enogastronomy, in which local products are predominant, is widely recognised. Besides the renowned and highly-valued typical Burgos blood pudding, the province also offers top tier local dishes, such as suckling lamb and olla podrida (pork and beans stew) – all of it accompanied with an exquisite local wine pertaining to one of the two existing Designations of Origin: Ribera del Duero and Arlanza, true treasures of the Province of Burgos.
