A historical edition

February 28 th 2023 - 19:30 [GMT + 1]

The 1st of May will be a historical occasion. On that day, we will finally present the exciting, and yet truly necessary, project that we have been lovingly and devotedly working on for years. La Vuelta Femenina is finally here.

This debut takes place with the support of Carrefour - a brand that is already a part of our La Vuelta family. After more than 10 years together, Carrefour continues to support cycling just as ardently as it always has, this time giving its name to the inaugural edition of La Vuelta Femenina by Carrefour.es.

It is also important to mention other key players in this project, such as the Supreme Council for Sports, that drives the development of this race just as eagerly and energetically as we do.

The first edition of La Vuelta Femenina would not be possible without all of its host locations. We begin with Torrevieja and the Province of Alicante, that will open the doors to its beautiful Costa Blanca, just as it did in La Vuelta 2019, in order to host an exceptional and historical Grand Departure. Orihuela, Pilar de la Horadada, Elche de la Sierra, La Roda, Cuenca, Guadalajara, La Cabrera, Riaza, Castro-Urdiales, Laredo and Pola de Siero have also shown their support and enthusiasm in accompanying us in this first edition of the women’s race.

Asturias deserves a special mention, as does its Grand Finale in Lagos de Covadonga. Such an important location for the history of cycling could not be left out of such a historical edition. This emblematic place has given us some of the best images, landscapes and epic stages – all of which remain etched in our collective memory. Now, as we celebrate 40 years since La Vuelta’s first climb of the Asturian colossus, professional women’s cycling will begin a new story here, thus continuing this location’s eternal legend.

It is truly an honour for me to launch such a beautiful and thrilling project. I hope you enjoy it just as much as we have enjoyed preparing it.
