Stage 7
25| Gaia REALINI
Gaia Realini (Trek-Segafredo): “This is only the beginning”
Because of how La Vuelta Femenina had panned out by the end of the third stage, on which I lost some time because of the win, I didn’t expect to be up there in the GC despite that being our initial goal. We never stopped believing as a team, and I’m very happy about it. The Lagos de Covadonga has made me think of the Passo Lanciano, a climb near my home on which I train and undertake my performance tests. I’ve had lots of fun: it’s a beautiful climb! There was an opportunity for me to win the stage, but in the last kilometre the fatigue kicked in....

87| Marianne VOS
Marianne Vos (Team Jumbo-Visma): “An event up to the expectations”
I’m very happy [with my performance at La Vuelta Femenina by Carrefour.es]. Of course, it was great to start off with a win in the team time trial and we had good motivation to continue with these vibes. Then, of course, the two stage wins, the green jersey and the white jersey feel really good. Riejanne Markus also did a really great job in the general classification, barely missing out the podium. All in all, I think it has been a great Vuelta for us. It’s one of the big grand tours, it grew in the last years and it has gotten to become one of the biggest events...

17| Demi VOLLERING
Demi Vollering (SD Worx): “We have proven our worth”
The whole team fought really hard for the victory because we had something to make up for after yesterday’s stage. I’m really happy that I could win here today. Two stage wins are really nice, and it was close for the GC too. It’s sad that I wasn’t able to battle with the bests yesterday, because I could have won the GC. Today we have proven our worth, and I’m very happy about our performance.

7| Annemiek VAN VLEUTEN
Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar Team): “A victory for Movistar Team as a whole”
I feel super happy and super tired. It’s unbelievable. I fought all the way to the end, knowing that I didn’t have my best legs already early on. Maybe I was paying for yesterday’s effort… But I never gave up. I kept on pushing, knowing that my rivals were also getting tired. It was an amazing team job again today. This Vuelta is a victory for Movistar Team as a whole.

57| Silvia PERSICO
Silvia Persico (UAE Team ADQ): “Very pleased with the way we have raced here”
It hasn’t been a great Vuelta Femenina for me, but I’m very pleased with the way we have raced here as a team. I knew I wasn’t the leader, so on a personal level getting away with the 4th place I got in yesterday’s stage is fine. I would have preferred to win a stage, of course, but anyway I’m happy. We hope to do better in the next few races. It is not the first race on which we finish as the best team. We know that, when we all race together with a shared goal, we are a great squad. Thanks to my teammates and to all the team staff, we have...
Stage 6
25| Gaia REALINI
Gaia Realini (Trek-Segafredo): “We came here to fight, and this victory is really rewarding”
When Vollering got dropped, several teams started pulling to keep her at bay. As for me, I got to start the first climb in a very good position with the help of my teammates. When Annemiek [van Vleuten] attacked, I took her wheel and sat on it without letting her a single meter of leeway. When she attacked in the intermediate sprint, the rest of the riders in the group stopped cooperating. That’s the moment when I told myself: ‘Now or never.’ I closed the gap and went with her all the way to the finish line. There was a bit of hesitation as to whether I...
Stage 6
7| Annemiek VAN VLEUTEN
Annemiek van Vleuten (Movistar Team): “I went all out today”
We know this area really well and the moment when we attacked was a super good one. After we made our plan, some girls stopped for a nature break. I felt a bit shit for them, but they stopped in the wrong moment. You should never stop while in an open road with headwinds and crosswinds coming up. We followed our plan and it turned out to be a super good move. It was a great team effort and I’m super proud of my team. Paula Patino and Liane Lippert set it up for me to attack at the bottom of the first climb and off I went on my own to finish it off. Then there were...
Stage 5
17| Demi VOLLERING
Demi Vollering (SD Worx): “I thought I had gone a bit too early”
I was just really keen to win this because, for me… Today was just really hard! I thought to just go my own tempo, because I know I can keep a hard pace for a long time and I hoped to drop as many riders as possible, as soon as possible. Annemiek (van Vleuten) tried to overtake me and I thought it was also time to give it my all and empty myself. First, I thought it was maybe a bit too early because there was still a long way, but in the end, it was not. Today was a hard day, there was a lot of climbing. In the beginning it looked good for us, as the three of us were...
Stage 5
96| Ane SANTESTEBAN GONZALEZ
Ane Santesteban (Team Jayco AlUla): “I’m being quite unlucky in this Vuelta Femenina”
I’m being quite unlucky in this Vuelta Femenina. I’ve crashed twice because the rider in front of me hit the deck and I couldn’t avoid her. The Navafria climb has been very hard for me – even harder than the final one! It is a very long climb and, since Marta Cavalli started setting a very strong pace at its very beginning, I ended up being in the red. Afterwards I reckoned most riders were also suffering and that helped me overcome this moment of crisis and reach the final climb within the group. The last stage is going to be defining one. Big gaps...
Stage 5
32| Elise CHABBEY
Elise Chabbey (Canyon//SRAM): “Ricarda has shown that she is one of the best climbers in this Vuelta Femenina”
It was a bit painful in my knee but, when we started racing hard, I noticed more pain in my legs and my heart – so it was fine! We are glad because Ricarda [Bauernfeind] was feeling good and was able to show she is one of the best climbers in this Vuelta Femenina. As for me, I could claim some points in Navafria to keep this polka dot jersey. All in all, it was a nice stage for us. Winning the QOM classification is not our biggest goal. Our real goal is to win a stage and to be up there in the GC, but if I can I will try to keep this polka dot jersey, for sure.
